The Puntland regional government has launched new development projects in the Balli-dhidin district of the Bari region, including areas recently liberated from ISIS militants in the Al-Miskaad mountains.
Senior Puntland officials, including the Deputy Speaker of the Puntland Parliament, the Governor of Bari region, and the Mayor of Balli-dhidin district, attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a new water well aimed at addressing critical water shortages affecting local communities and livestock.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bari Regional Governor Abdirisaq Ali Yare, also known as Shahdoon, emphasized the importance of the project for peace, stability, and development in the region. He noted that the well would play a vital role in restoring livelihoods in areas impacted by conflict and prolonged water scarcity.
“Today we are laying the foundation stone for a well in Balli-dhidin district. During the recent operations, two wells completely lost water, while seven others were severely affected,” Governor Abdirisaq Ali Yare said. “We hope this new well will provide sufficient water for the community and their animals.”
The water project is part of broader reconstruction efforts by the Puntland government following military operations that drove ISIS militants out of parts of the Al-Miskaad area.
Officials say improving access to basic services such as clean water is essential for encouraging displaced residents to return and for supporting long-term stability in the region.
