The Puntland regional government on Saturday presented details of ISIS fighters captured during military operations carried out in 2025 in the Al-Miskaad mountains of Somalia’s Bari region.

Speaking in the port city of Bosaso, Puntland authorities displayed information about the detainees, including their names and countries of origin. According to officials, the captured prisoners include individuals born in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Morocco, Yemen, Syria, and Tanzania.

A table released by the Puntland government showed that the largest number of the captured ISIS members were born in Ethiopia, Somalia’s neighboring country. Yemen and Tanzania ranked next in terms of the number of detainees.

Among European-linked cases, Turkey was listed, with two of the prisoners identified as having been born there.
The presentation comes amid ongoing security operations by Puntland forces aimed at dismantling ISIS strongholds in the mountainous Al-Miskaad area, which has been a key hideout for the militant group.
