Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has laid the foundation stone for a project to restore the former palace of Boqor Osman Mohamoud in Bargaal, a historic site in Somalia’s Ras Asayr region.

The project aims to restore the building and turn it into a museum documenting the history of the former sultanate and preserving the region’s historical heritage, particularly that of Ras Asayr.
“We are restoring Boqor Osman’s palace so that it can become a museum where the history of the sultanate and these regions can be preserved,” President Deni said.
He described the initiative as an important step towards protecting the area’s historical heritage and ensuring that traces of its past are preserved for future generations.

The announcement comes as residents of Bargaal say the area continues to face significant shortages in basic public services. The wider Ras Asayr region has also been described as having limited government infrastructure.
Some residents who attended the president’s reception in Bargaal on Monday said the town lacked essential services, including adequate healthcare facilities, roads, a university, a police station and sufficient government offices.
The restoration project is therefore expected to add to efforts to preserve the area’s cultural and historical heritage, although residents continue to call for greater investment in basic infrastructure and public services.
