The Puntland government has announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening security, safeguarding state institutions, and reinforcing the rule of law following a Cabinet meeting focused on the region’s security and administrative situation.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the Cabinet said it had decided to refer the names of several politicians, military officers, and other individuals to the justice authorities. The individuals are accused of involvement in activities that the government says have undermined security and disrupted Puntland’s system of governance.
The government said those named would be subjected to legal proceedings through what it described as a fair judicial process.
The Cabinet also instructed all security agencies to prohibit the movement of armed personnel and vehicles that are not affiliated with official security institutions within Puntland territory. According to the government, the measure is intended to strengthen public order and prevent unlawful activities.
In addition, the Cabinet resolved to take legal action against owners and users of social media platforms accused of publishing false information or content deemed defamatory towards Puntland’s state institutions.
The government also called on media organisations and journalists operating in Puntland to comply with the region’s press regulations and professional code of ethics, urging them to verify the accuracy of information before publishing it.
