President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday received Wang Yu, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Somalia, at the presidential palace in Mogadishu, where the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation.

According to officials, the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, including expanding diplomatic engagement and enhancing cooperation between Somalia and China.
During the talks, Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to the One-China principle, recognising the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government representing China. The Somali government also reiterated its position that Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory and voiced opposition to any form of what it described as “Taiwan independence”.
President Mohamud expressed appreciation for China’s continued support for Somalia’s state-building efforts, highlighting Beijing’s longstanding backing for Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national unity.
China has remained one of Somalia’s key international partners, supporting infrastructure development, humanitarian assistance and diplomatic cooperation as the Horn of Africa nation continues efforts to rebuild institutions after decades of conflict.
The meeting at Villa Somalia comes amid growing diplomatic engagement between African nations and China, with Beijing seeking deeper economic and strategic ties across the continent.
