The Federal Government of Somalia has temporarily suspended travel to Egypt under the “OK-to-Board” travel authorisation system, citing concerns over the treatment of Somali passengers upon arrival.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Immigration and Citizenship Agency said the decision was taken while authorities assess reports involving Somali nationals who encountered difficulties after landing in Egypt.
The agency said the Somali government was “closely monitoring the situation” following complaints that some travellers were unable to leave the airport despite holding the required travel clearance.
Officials did not specify how long the suspension would remain in place, but said the measure was intended to protect Somali citizens while discussions with relevant authorities continue.
The “OK-to-Board” system is commonly used by airlines and immigration authorities to confirm that passengers meet entry requirements before departure.
The Somali government has not yet provided further details on the number of affected travellers or the exact nature of the incidents reported at Egyptian airports.
No immediate response has been issued by Egyptian authorities regarding the suspension.
