The recruits received training in criminal law, human rights and a range of military skills, including first aid, communications, weapons maintenance and combat tactics, according to the Somali government.

Mr Hamza, accompanied by the defence minister and the commander of the Somali armed forces, praised the soldiers for their commitment and perseverance throughout the training programme.

He urged the newly graduated troops to use their skills in the service of the Somali people and to fulfil their responsibilities in defending the country and maintaining national security.

The prime minister said his administration was prioritising the strengthening and development of Somalia’s armed forces, with the aim of building a professional military capable of carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

He also called on the soldiers to uphold the law and demonstrate patriotism, loyalty and commitment to national defence as they take part in efforts to counter al-Shabab and other armed groups operating in Somalia.

During the ceremony, members of the 12th Danab batch demonstrated military skills and techniques they had acquired during their training.

Government officials said the programme had prepared the soldiers for national duties, including defence, security and counter-terrorism operations.
