Somalia: Puntland President meets EU Special Envoy and Ambassadors

Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali on Monday met the EU Special Envoy and ambassador to Somalia Michele Cervone d’Urso, after he paid a visit to the state’s capital.

During the meeting, both sides discussed issues related to the relations between Puntland government and European Union.

‘’ We talked about the EU current missions in Puntland and the upcoming development projects and also ways of strengthening our cooperation,’’ said Puntland leader.

Mr Ali briefed the EU envoy on the recent development of the state and raised Puntland forces victory over al-Shabaab insurgents in Galgala mountain ranges, which led to the capturing of the militants base after a fierce battle last week.

The two sides also discussed on the upcoming Conference of ‘’New deal’’ that will be held in Copenhagen next month, where different sides from the Somali and International community will meet to discuss on the war-ravaged nation’s future.

‘’ The European Union is committed to continue its support to the Puntland government,’’ said Ambassador Michele Cervone d’Urso after the meeting.

Elsewhere, Ambassadors from several European Union countries met Puntland President and discussed on topics related to Piracy and regional stability.
