Al-Shabab militant group leader, Ahmed Abdi Godane, who is well known as Mukhtar Abu Zubayr has urged Somali people to prepare for a ‘holy war’ against Ethiopian troops, which are part of the African Union peacekeeping troops.
Throughout the weekend, Ethiopian troops along with the Somali national army managed to capture several key towns from the militant group in various Southern regions of Somalia.
In an audio statement released, he said that Somali people had defeated Ethiopian troops before and called them to support the ‘’Mujahedeen’’. He added that Ethiopia has been a long ‘arch-enemy’ of Somalia, and since the 19th Century it’s been ‘invading’.
‘’ Muslim people in Somalia should get ready and unite to fight against their enemy (Ethiopia) as they have done in the past. We won’t accept to live under the humiliation of occupation,’’ he said.
The al-Qaeda-linked group leader accused the Somali government of being responsible for the presence of the Ethiopian troops in the country.
Abu Zubair is in U.S wanted terror list members. The U.S government has authorized a reward of up to $7 million for information on his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Somali President said the on-going anti-al Shabab Offensives will continue until ‘’they are uprooted out of the whole country’’.
