Francisco Caetano Jose MadeiraThe Special Representative of the African Union Commission Chairperson (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Caetano Madeira, has welcomed the arrival in Mogadishu, of the Heads of State and Government of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) member states, for their first ever summit in Somalia in more than two decades.
“The presence of the Heads of State in Somalia is a clear dividend of returning stability in the country. It is an endorsement of Somalia’s recovery and a testimony of the resolve of the Somali people to imbibe a culture that promotes peace instead of conflict.
As AMISOM, we will continue to work hand in hand with the Somali security forces to sustain the prevailing peace,” Ambassador Madeira stated.
“I congratulate the Federal Government of Somalia and the people of Somalia for hosting this landmark event, where critical decisions affecting IGAD members states will be made,” he said.
The summit takes place in the capital Mogadishu today, against a backdrop of heightened political activities heralding an impending electoral process that will culminate in a presidential vote at the end of October 2016.
