Italy Deputy Foreign Minister Visits Mogadishu

PistelliItaly Deputy Foreign minister Lapo Pistelli a secret visit to the Somali capital and meet top Somali government officials.

An Italian air force carrying the minister and his delegates touched down the Mogadishu airport on Monday and was received by the Somali Foreign Minister Abdirahman Beileh.

Mr Pistelli later on met the President, Speaker of Parliament and Prime Minister of the Federal Government at the Presidential Palace.

Meetings were concerning on the current situation of the war-ravaged nation and ways of intensifying the bilateral relations between both sides, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign affairs.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called for the Italian government to continue the support its providing to his country.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy, Mr Lapo Pistelli pledged for continued support and stressed on ways of enhancing the bilateral relations.

Italy, which once colonised Somalia appointed a new ambassador to the Horn of Africa nation.
