Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who is on an official visit to Tokyo, the capital of Japan met on Thursday the Prime minister of Japan Shinzo Abe.
Both leaders held talks on the bilateral relations and the on-going aid the government and people of Japan are providing to the war-ravaged country.
In a Press Conference after the talks, Japan Premier announced that his government will be giving a new $40 US million funding package to improve the Humanitarian situation in the country, as well rebuild the Police forces and creation of Job opportunities.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh also commended Japan’s massive support it has been giving to Somalia during the Press Conference.
‘’We are moving rapidly into a period of recovery and development and I salute Japan for intensifying its bilateral programme of assistance which will, we hope, include vocational training for youth and women, fisheries and agriculture infrastructure development, information and communication technology support and maritime and fisheries training.’’ he said.
Since 2007, Japan has contributed about $300 million to the Federal Government of Somalia, out of which $60 million is directed to security.
