Press Release, Garowe, 17 Jan 2015:- Media Association of Puntland (MAP) condemns hand grenades hurled at the Radio Galkacyo headquarters in the central Somali region of Mudug on Friday evening.
The assault which occurred around 21:00 local time was carried out by unidentified attackers who immediately managed to free from the scene.
“The radio station was on air when the attack took place, as everybody was busy on his duties, we heard a loud explosion in middle of the compound”, Awil Mohamud, Radio Galkacyo director noted.
MAP calls for Puntland authority to safeguard working journalists by tracking down those responsible for such attacks.
“I condemn the assault on Radio Galkacyo in the strongest terms possible, and call on the Puntland authority to act swiftly to investigate this matter and bring the perpetrators to justice,” said Fatima Mohamed MAP Secretary General.
31st December, a similar attack occurred at the station which the editor and producer of radio Galkacyo were wounded.
