A Security officer of the Jubba interim Administration has been gunned down on Monday night in the port town of Kismayo, witnesses have confirmed.
The Officer named Issa Kamboni was gunned down by one of his own body guards while in his home at around 08:30pm local time. One of the other bodyguards was also killed and another injured.
He was the head of the Security of Kismayo town.
Security forces were deployed to the area of the scene and other parts of the town who made search operations, but the assassin managed to escape.
Further reports are suggesting that the guard defected from militant group al-Shabab few months ago and his defection is seen as a move to assassinate the security officer. But the group hasn’t yet commented.
Jubba interim administration officials have declined to talk about this incident.
Kismayo was a major stronghold for al-Shabab militants and relied on the seaport as a source of revenue and supplies. It lost the control of the key port city to AU troops, the Somali army and a pro-government militia in 2012.
