Mogadishu, Somalia – A Somali soldier opened fire at the Gen. Gordan military camp in Mogadishu today, killing nine soldiers, including two Emirati officers who were part of a training mission. The soldier, who had recently received his weapons after completing training, was also killed in the incident.

Al-Shabaab, the militant group affiliated with al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for the attack. They allege the soldier was a member of their militia, but this claim has not been independently verified by Somali authorities.

The senior Emirati officer, Col. Mohamed bin Mubarak, was seriously injured and is receiving medical attention.

This attack comes amid ongoing security concerns in Somalia, where the militant group al-Shabaab continues to carry out attacks.
