Somali Federal Government Recognizes New SSC-Khatumo Administration

Mogadishu, The Federal Government of Somalia has officially recognized the recently formed administration of SSC-Khatumo, following high-level talks in the capital.

According to a joint press statement, the leader of the new SSC-Khatumo interim administration, Abdulqadir Firdhiye, was invited to Mogadishu along with a delegation. Over a period of 10 days, extensive discussions touched on the political, security and humanitarian situation in the disputed region.

Ultimately, the Federal Government agreed to endorse the decisions made by traditional elders at their conference in Lasanood on February 6, 2023, where the local interim administration was established.

The statement affirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting all efforts for stability in the area, with any disputes to be resolved through dialogue. It welcomed the SSC-Khatumo administration’s readiness for a ceasefire and peaceful coexistence.

Additionally, the Federal Government called on Somaliland authorities and the SSC-Khatumo administration to halt hostilities and release prisoners. It expressed readiness to facilitate associated activities.

Citing its responsibility, the Federal Government said it would work urgently to revive and improve education, health, water and general humanitarian conditions in the region. It appealed to government agencies, the Somali community and international partners to provide immediate humanitarian relief.
