Three Army combatants were killed on Tuesday as extremist rebels set off a roadside bomb while their vehicle was passing the outskirts of Mogadishu, Somali capital, officials and witnesses said.
According to witnesses, the soldiers were part of a convoy travelling to an unidentified location close to Mogadishu.
A senior security officer confirmed to Horseed Media the death of three soldiers.
Somali militant group al-Shabaab claimed the responsibility of the attack, vowing to carry out more similar attacks.
The al-Qaeda-linked extremists remain dangerous, unpredictable and bold, known for audacious and chilling attacks. Their fighters routinely target the Somali government in Mogadishu. The group has also sought to terrorize neighboring Kenya.
Somalia has been racked by constant war for more than 20 years – its last functioning national government was toppled in 1991.
