Somalia: Car Bomb explodes near National Intelligence Headquarters in Mogadishu, Killing 9 people

A Car bomb has exploded in a restaurant close to the Somalia’s national Intelligence center in Mogadishu on Thursday, killing at least 9 people including Soldiers of the Somali government, Witnesses and Officials have Confirmed.

The bomb went off in the restaurant which is some 100 meters away from the Headquarters  located in Abdiaziz district and its unclear if the Intelligence center was the main target.

Among the dead people are also civilians who were at that time present in the Restaurant.  More than seven people have been injured in the blast.

Initial reports suggest that Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was expected to visit the Place today, accompanied with Senior government officials.

Somali Islamist group al-Shabab, which carried series of attacks in the Capital in the past few weeks, took the responsibility of this attack. An Official of the group said they are planning to carry more similar attacks.

The attack comes days after the al-Qaeda linked militant group carried a deadly attack at the Somali Presidential palace Compound.

Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Condemned the latest al-Shabab attack and vowed that his government will carry soon a large offensive in which it will eliminate the group out of the country, as he said.

This latest attack once again exposes the weaknesses of the Security agencies of the Somali government.
