SOMALIA: High-level UN delegation Arrives in Mogadishu

On Wednesday, a high level UN delegation led by the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, B. Lynn Pascoe arrived in Mogadishu.
Under-Secretary-General Pascoe was accompanied by Dr. Augustine Mahiga, Secretary General’s Special Representative for Somalia.  The delegation met with the President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed at Villa Somalia.
President Sharif and the UN delegation held a wide-ranging discussion on the situation of Somalia particularly the need for the International community and the United Nations to expedite their support to the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia.
Under-Secretary-General Pascoe informed the President that there will be series of high-level meetings on Somalia in the next four weeks with the objective of providing speedy support to the TFG.
Mr. Pascoe has assured the Somali president that UN security-sector assistance will soon reach the Somali government.
President Sharif gave the UN delegation a comprehensive assessment on the security, political and the humanitarian situation of Somalia and he reiterated his call for serious international partnership with the Transitional Federal Institutions.
