The Puntland administration has already held elections in 33 local council districts, with these three districts being the last.

The people of the three districts went to the polls this morning, and for the first time they will vote for the members representing the councils.

A total of 64,746 people have registered in these three districts.

Voting is taking place in 80 polling stations with 431 candidates running for 81 seats.

Puntland, the largest federal state in Somalia, is the only autonomous region that has held public elections. Also, the Somaliland administration (the north-west of Somalia) which wants secession has held public elections.
