SOMALIA: President, Prime Minister to visit Puntland and Hirshabelle states

Published: August 25, 2022

The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, is scheduled to make his first trip to Puntland State today, since he was elected on 15 May 2022.

A delegation from the Federal Government led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia arrived yesterday in Garowe, the capital of Puntland.

This trip is important for President Hassan, and is part of his efforts to improve the cooperation between the Federal Government and the Puntland Government.

The leader of Puntland, Saed Abdullahi Deni, who himself ran for the position of the Federal President, is said to be highly critical of the Federal Ministers appointed by Prime Minister Hamse of President Hassan’s UPD party.

Prime Minister Hamse will today visit the town of Beledweyne in Hirshabelle State, the areas where the Somali military has been fighting against the Al Shabaab group for the past few weeks.

The Federal Government of Somalia has declared an all-out war against Al-Shabaab after last Friday’s attack on the Hayat Hotel in Mogadishu that killed more than 30 people.
