On Tuesday, the police of the semi autonomous region of Puntland began arresting people from southern Somalia in the commercial capital Bosaso City.
The police armed with wagons with heavy machineguns and lorries rounded up people in the coastal town, about 500 people were deported from the city in the last 48 hours.
The deportation of suspected people is part of a major security campaign by the Puntland government. For months Bosaso was the scene of many assassinations and bombings targeting government officials.
Today, two police men were shot dead in Bosaso by unknown assailants.
The move to deport southerners from Puntland comes just days after the government passed a new law on terrorism. The Puntland Parliament adopted the new anti terror law, today.
