Somalia: Puntland President tours remote areas

Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali along with cabinet members on Tuesday visited remote districts located in the Bari province of the semi-autonomous region.

Residents of Hiriro and Iskushuban districts welcomed the President’s convoy massively.

Local elders and administrations of the remote areas passed several complaints to the Puntland leader, most of them related to the basic needs.

Some of the areas the President has visited were formerly Pirates bases. Efforts from residents and Puntland marine forces led to the eradication of Sea gangs who no longer are not in the area.

Since he was elected President in January this year, Dr Gaas has been touring extensively throughout Puntland, this was part of his campaign promises to improve the development of the infrastructure and the public services in the remote areas of the region.
