SOMALIA: Puntland State celebrates its 24th anniversary

The people living in Puntland celebrated the 24th anniversary of the establishment of the North-East Somalia administration, on Monday.

Puntland was established in 1998, after a conference that was held for months in Garowe, and was agreed upon by delegates from Bari, Nugaal, North-Mudug, Sool, Sanaag and Buhoodle district in Togdheer region.

August 1, 1998 was the day that the Puntland Government was completed and the MP’s from the regions were elected.

However, this year’s event was not organized as before, the parade of the local forces and the people in the capital Garowe was cancelled, as the country is greatly affected by the prolonged drought.

The President of Puntland, Saed Abdullahi Deni, inaugurated projects implemented by the regional government in Garowe.

Last night, Puntland leaders and other dignitaries attended a ceremony that was held at the Presidential Palace.
