A Member of the Somali Federal Parliament has been assassinated by unknown gunmen in the Somali Capital on Tuesday morning, officials and witnesses confirmed.
The MP, Mohamed Isak Mursale was shot dead as he was on his way to work and had left his residence. After the shooting, gunmen fled from the scene before the Security forces arrived.
It’s the second consecutive day a member of the Federal Parliament has been killed in Mogadishu.
Another MP was killed yesterday after a bomb planted under the seat of his car exploded as he drove.
Somali Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh condemned the murder of the MP and said that ‘’the acts of terror will not derail us from the progress made in securing Somalia”.
Al-Qaeda linked extremist group al-Shabab has claimed the responsibility of both assassinations. The group is fighting to implement Islamic shariah law in the war ravaged country, but it has lost key towns to the Somali and AU forces last month.
Parliament Speaker Mohamed Osman Jawari had earlier said that the assassination of the member of the Parliament won’t halt the Parliament duties.
