Kenyan military has conducted several airstrikes in areas controlled by the radical militant group al-Shabaab in Southern Somalia, military officials have said.
The airborne attacks took place in al-Shabaab hideouts in Gedo region, close to the Somalia-Kenya border which the group still controls part of it, the officials told press agencies.
It is yet unknown the number of casualties.
Kenyan army spokesman David Obonyo told the AFP that they destroyed two al-Shabaab camps.
This is the first operation against the al-Qaeda-linked extremists conducted by the Kenyan army following the deadly raid on Garissa College University that claimed almost 150 lives.
Kenya sent forces into Somalia in 2011 to fight the al-Qaida-inspired Islamist group, which has carried out a series of bombings and kidnappings in the region.
