United States envoy to Somalia announced$ 1.5 million in aid to Somalia police for the restructuring process and to educate the officers on standards of crime investigations.
Somalia’s minister of Finance Mohamed Aden Ibrahim and the U.S. envoy James P. McAnulty signed the agreement in a ceremony held in Mogadishu on Friday.
Somalia’s Police chief and other security officials were present at the ceremony.
The fund will help to train Police officers on how to investigate organized crimes and get the appropriate equipment to conduct their duties, said officials.

Speaking after the ceremony, Somalia’s Police Chief welcomed the new aid and said it will be a moral boost for the police strengthening and will play a major role in promoting peace in the country.
Ambassador McAnulty also stressed that his government is determined to continue its support towards the government and people of Somalia. He added that he was delighted with the relations between both nations.
Somalia’s Police sector was torn apart by decades of clan rivalries and the absence of any effective government to actually serve.
