Two Somali aid workers were shot and killed by unidentified gunmen in the heart of Somali capital, Mogadishu on Monday, Horseed Media reports.
According to witnesses, the two aid workers named Amina Mohamed Nor and Abdirsak Adawe working for the United Nations died after the gunmen opened fire on a car they were riding in the busy Mogadishu Makka al-Mukarama street.
Immediately, the gunmen fled away from the area before police and intelligence forces arrived to carry out investigations.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killing. The motive of the murder is still unclear.
Over the past few years, Mogadishu has witnessed numerous assassinations of security and government officials carried out by unknown gunmen, with al-Shabaab claiming part of the attacks.
Though al-Shabaab was pushed out of key towns in South and Central Somalia, the group has been able to hit high-profile targets in Mogadishu’s heavily fortified areas, including the national courts, the UN compound, the Turkish embassy, and popular gathering places.
