Somalia’s Federal government President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud will be among some 50 leaders attending the first-ever world humanitarian summit in Istanbul to rethink the global aid strategy, Horseed Media reports.
The 23-24 May summit will assemble more than 6,000 attendees from governments, aid agencies, affected communities, civil society and the private sector.
President Mohamoud and United Nations deputy special envoy to Somalia Peter de Clercq hold a meeting on Monday to discuss on the upcoming summit.
According to a statement from the President’s office, Somalia will present its ideas on ways to improve humanitarian aid.
After the summit, a special meeting on the humanitarian situation in Somalia will be held.
Governments attending the World Humanitarian Summit are expected to commit to reducing the funding gap for life-saving aid work, in return for promises of greater efficiency from the humanitarian sector.
