At least 8 people were killed and another number injured in fresh fighting between two rival clan militias in Somalia’s Central town of Beledweyn, Horseed Media reports.
The clashes between armed militia from two clans broke out in the town which is close to the border with Ethiopia on Tuesday and been going on until Wednesday.
‘’We are not capable of intervening the fighting between the two sides due to certain reasons,’’ said a local official.
Somalia’s Federal government has not spoken of the latest battle but local elders have called for relative peace.
The clash between the two rival clans has been going on for so long following a land dispute, while the local elders been able to mediate between the groups, a lasting ceasefire has never been achieved, reliable sources added.
Other sources claim that the violence is about elective politics, with each clan wanting a dominant role.
Since the collapse of the Central government in 1991, Water, pasture and politics have been at the center of sporadic clashes between Somali tribes across the country.
