The leaders of the Somali federal government and heads of the five regional states have not yet reached an agreement on the agenda of the Dusamareb Conference that is expected to begin in the Galmudug capital in the coming hours.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Prime Minister Hassan Ali Kheyre have been holding meetings with the leaders of the regional states since yesterday to reach an understanding on their differences, especially on the model of the upcoming elections.

The leaders continued their deliberations until late into the night but sources reported that no progress has been reached yet on which model the country should use for the upcoming elections.

While President Farmajo is pushing for a one person one vote election, the regional state leaders want an indirect model of election.

Nonetheless, the leaders reportedly agreed to continue with their preliminary talks until they reach an agreement on the issues on the table before the launch of the Dusamareb Consultative Conference.
