Erigavo, Sanaag Region – A wave of violence swept through Erigavo on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of three civilians and prompting the local government to implement an immediate curfew.
According to local sources, organized militias attacked a police station in the city, escalating tensions in an area already experiencing significant unrest. Nurses at the city hospital confirmed three fatalities, including one woman, with additional injuries reported.
Somaliland’s Minister of Interior, Mohamed Kahin, addressed the situation, ordering security forces to arrest those responsible for the killings. As an immediate measure to prevent further violence, a citywide curfew will be enforced starting tonight.
This incident marks the second outbreak of violence in the region, occurring shortly after the election of Somaliland President Abdirahman Cirro, whose supporters have a strong presence in the area.
The city of Erigavo, located in the Sanaag region, was resettled following a peace agreement after the civil war and is predominantly inhabited by members of the Isaaq and Harti clans
