In a high-level diplomatic meeting, Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and Danish Ambassador Steen Sonne Andersen addressed recent concerns surrounding comments made during the Somaliland election observation.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, aimed to clarify and resolve potential misunderstandings about Denmark’s stance on Somalia’s territorial sovereignty. Ambassador Andersen explicitly reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to Somalia’s territorial integrity and unity, emphasizing that Somaliland remains an integral part of Somalia.

Both nations stressed their continued partnership in critical areas including state-building, climate change mitigation, and regional peace and security efforts. The diplomatic exchange underscores the importance of maintaining clear communication and mutual respect in international relations.

The Danish ambassador subsequently wrote on social media platform X, confirming the productive dialogue and reiterating Denmark’s support for Somalia’s national unity.

This meeting follows a diplomatic invitation from the Somali Foreign Ministry on November 14, requesting clarification about recent comments made during the election observation process in the northern regions.

The resolution demonstrates the diplomatic channels’ effectiveness in addressing potential misunderstandings and maintaining strong bilateral relations between Somalia and Denmark.
