Five suspects who were arrested on Sunday on suspicion that they were conducting a surveillance with the aim of orchestrating a terror attack in Nairobi have been presented in court.

The five; three men and two women, were arrested at Whiskey River, an entertainment joint on Kiambu Road in the wee hours of Sunday morning after being trailed for the better part of the night.

The suspects were identified as Mohammed Abas Mahmoud, a US citizen, Mohammed Hassan Bario, a Somalia national, females, Hodan Abdi Ismail and Ifra Mohammed Abshir — both Somalia nationals — and a Kenyan who was their driver, Mohammed Adan.

They were presented before Magistrate Zeinabu Abdul where the prosecution sought for 15 more days to detain them pending conclusion of investigations.

Detectives believe that the five, who were being trailed for the better part of Saturday night, were conducting surveillance with the intention to conduct or pass the information to individuals with intention to orchestrate a terror attack.

Upon a search on their vehicle, police recovered an array of items including a pair of Kenya Airforce trousers, one jungle t-shirt, another pair of jungle trousers, money in various currency, one laptop, one US passport, and a US embassy security card.

In the initial interrogation, the suspects are said to have given inconsistent narratives about their steps in the last 24 hours.
