At least 14 people have been killed and more than 20 injured in Somalia in clan-related violence caused by a check point dispute on Monday, witnesses said.
The clashes between armed militia from two clans broke out in the town of Beledweyn, the capital of Somalia’s Hiiran region and close to the border with Ethiopia.
‘’One of the militias demanded an amount of money generated from the taxes,’’ said a local elder in the town.
Local administrations have been criticized for not intervening the battle between the clans, yet some locals have accused government officials of fuelling the clash.
Water, pasture and politics have been at the center of sporadic clashes between the two clans, who live in the Central region of Somalia.
