Scores injured during protest against Somalia PresidentAt least 3 people were injured Saturday when a large crowd of people protesting against Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud clashed with security forces in the town of Beledweyn, Central Somalia, Horseed Media reports.
Hundreds of people gathered in the town to protest against the President, who is currently on a visit to the city to boost the formation of a new Federal state.
Medical officials at the main hospital in Beledweyn confirmed that at least three people with multiple injuries were admitted to the health centre.
According to witnesses, Security forces opened fire on the demonstrators in an effort to disperse the crowd.
There was no comment from government officials on the incident.
Elders and residents of the Hiiraan region have accused the President of having a hidden agenda towards the formation of the new state. The elders have called for a non-interference policy and respect of their rights.
A meeting between President Mohamoud and clan elders ended unsuccessful on Friday, with both sides failing to reach an agreement.
