Somalia’s federal government has named the body that will determine the conduct of the 2016 General Election.
The 9-member independent electoral commission were named following a high-level ministerial meeting held in Mogadishu on Thursday chaired by the Prime Minister.
Under the terms of Somalia’s provisional constitution, the Electoral commission is responsible for the registration of voters and the conduct of free and fair elections.
On the other side, the cabinet approved the new electoral boundaries commission which will be composed of 9-members who were selected from about 400 people that had applied for it.
The moves comes two days after the President of the federal government Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud had ruled out of any postponement to next year’s elections following speculations on plans to extend his term in office.
