The Somali Federal government is to offer millions of dollars in rewards for information leading to the capture or location of newly appointed Somali Militant group leader, Ahmed Omar Abu-ubaidah.
Head of Somalia’s intelligence agency, Abdirahman Turyare, announced that an amount of $3m will be given to anyone who provides the information to the government.
Abu-ubaidah was selected by al-Shabaab to replace the former leader of the hardline group, Ahmed Godane, who was killed in a U.S airstrike last month in Southern Somalia.
Presenting his speech at the UN General assembly in New York earlier, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud said that his government has defeated the group militarily.
The announcement comes as the government is preparing to take over the few towns still under the control of al-Shabaab militants in the southern part of the country.
