Puntland President Abdiweli Mohammed Ali has appointed a new Police Chief who will take over the post from the outgoing General Mohammed Said Jaqanaf, sources confirmed.
Mr Gaas appointed senior officer Abdirisak Afgudud, who held this position a decade ago under the former late President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed.
General Afgudud was praised for his achievements and handling of security challenges in the autonomous region during his tenure.
Delivering his speech in the 17th anniversary recently, President Gaas pledged that his administration was determined to improve the security situation in the region, with threats coming from the al-Qaeda-linked extremists.
