Police officers in Mandera County are holding a suspected Al Shabaab militant who reportedly surrendered on Thursday.
According to Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kathya, 23-year-old Salat Hajir Jimale is in custody at Elwak Police Station where he is being questioned.
The suspect was taken into custody by Bulla Afya Assistant Chief Muhammed Abdullahi who is said to have sighted him first.
Military jungle uniforms, and AK-47 rifle and three fully loaded magazines were recovered from the suspect.
Mr. Kathya added that authorities suspect Jimale hails from Ashabito area of Rhamu in Mandera North.
The surrender comes a day after three people were killed and five others injured after Al Shabaab militants attacked a bus in Sarmani, Mandera County.
The bus belonging to Moyale Raha company was from Mandera headed to Nairobi when the insurgents attacked.
