At least 13 people have been killed and 18 other wounded in a suicide car bomb attack on a packed cafe in the Somali capital, reports say.

The cafe is popular with government officials, politicians and Diasporas, and was busy with diners at the time of the attack.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but government officials have blamed Islamist militant group al-Shabaab.

The owner of the Cafe said that he doesn’t know what ‘motivated’ the attack, adding that many of his employees where among the dead and huge destruction of property.

Somalia President Hassan Sheikh condemned the attack saying that is a ‘’sign of an end’’ to the extremists.

Mogadishu has been calm in the past two months after the government had tightened the security following suicide attacks and assassinations carried out by the group.

The latest attack comes as the al-Qaeda-linked militant group lost its last major stronghold to the allied forces.
