The second conference of Somalia’s 2016 vision was concluded in Garowe on Saturday, the capital of the semi-autonomous state of Puntland.
Somalia’s federal government President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud together with the leaders of Puntland, Jubaland and South-west states held extensive discussions on implementation of the 2016 vision – mainly concerning on ways of holding peaceful elections across the country.
In a communiqué released summarizing the key points of the discussion, the sides agreed on holding elections in 2016 with all parties taking part.
The Conference also supported the integration of a national army, which the regional states will contribute. Also they agreed to have a collaboration on eliminating the ‘’terrorists’’ and secure the territories under still the control of the militant group al-Shabaab.
Leaders also agreed on equally sharing the country’s natural resources and also the aid from the international community. A review on the provisional constitution and completing the remaining members of the constitutional review committee was among the points agreed on.
Speaking in a Press conference, the leaders of all parties supported the outcome of the forum and pledged to work on the development and progress of the nation.
Launched in 2013 in Brussels, the New deal compact focuses on peace and state-building in Somalia.
