Somali militant group al-Shabaab has claimed the responsibility of the UN bus explosion in Northern Somalia, killing at least 8 UN staff including foreign nationals.
A Spokesman from the group said that their main target was the ‘’foreign workers’’ travelling on the bus.
The terrorist attack was carried out in an area close to the UN main compound in Garowe, shaking parts of the Puntland capital and sending a huge plume of smoke and dust into the air.
UN officials in Somalia and local authorities condemned the attack. Police officers are still investigating the attack.
It is the latest in a series of terrorist actions carried by the al-Qaeda-linked militant group. In the past weeks, the extremists launched attacks on military convoys, government buildings and in a university in neighbouring Kenya.
