Somalia: Port expansion equipment arrives at Bosaso

Bosaso: The first shipment of equipment that will aid in the expansion of Somalia’s Northern strategic Port of Bosaso arrived on Tuesday, Horseed Media reports.
Puntland Vice President Abdihakim Abdullahi Amey along with several cabinet members were present at the port to receive the equipment delivered by the Makal Harbour ship.
According to Puntland Vice President Abdihakim Amey, the depth of the harbour will be 13 m that will let larger ships to dock at the port.
‘’This is another step forward for the port of Bosaso which is a major source of economy for the whole country.’’
Puntland’s Minister of Ports Abdullahi Jama Salah said that another shipment of equipment will soon arrive at the port.
‘’ Upon completion of the project, Bosaso port will be that facilitates and enhances loading and offloading of cargo.’’

Last year, Puntland signed multi-million dollars long-awaited project with the UAE-based firm Divers Marine Contracting L.L.C  to expand the strategic port.
Located in North-eastern Somalia on the Gulf of Aden coast, Bosaso is the third largest city in the country and it is the economic heart of Puntland State with a major seaport.
Very Close to the Gulf of Aden, it became an important commercial point of entry, and according to International organisations it has also served as a refuelling station for maritime transport between the Red Sea and Persian Gulf.
