Somalia’s Army killed 19 members of the radical Islamic group al-Shabaab and destroyed a base of the insurgent entity in the southern province of Bay, military sources reported on Wednesday.

The head of the armed corps, General Odowa Yusuf, stated that during the military operations in the vicinity of the town of Dinsor, the military forces also captured two members of the extremist group alive.

The recent military operations against al-Shabaab are part of the Army’s efforts to cleanse various areas of this territory of extremists, said the senior military chief, who described the current campaign against the militants of the aforementioned terrorist formation as successful.

Meanwhile, the radical entity claimed responsibility for an attack with explosives in Mogadishu, carried out on Tuesday, which left two civil deaths and several wounded, reported the Garowe Online digital newspaper.

The violent action of al-Shabaab, linked to the terrorist group al-Qaida, is part of a plan by that entity to further destabilize this country in the Horn of Africa ahead of the presidential and legislative elections, which will take place from December, 2020 until January 2021.
