Authorities in the Northern Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland have said that they seized a boat in carrying more than 80 illegal migrants from Ethiopia.
The overcrowded boat was arrested off the coast of Sanag region.
‘’ It was heading to Yemen and our cost guard managed to intercept it. We found 7 dead bodies. Most of them are suffering from dehydration and did not eat for couple of days,’’ said Ahmed Abdi, a governor.
Would-be Ethiopians and Somalis immigrants fleeing poverty or violence, frequently set sail for Yemen in the hope of reaching oil-rich Saudi Arabia.
Despite of the war in Yemen which has caused many to flee and humanitarian crisis, Ethiopian immigrants are still determined enough to cross the dangerous sea and reach the the gulf country.
