UNDP Deputy Regional Director Visits Mogadishu, Somalia Meets with Government Officials

Mogadishu, Somalia – Ms. Marina Walter, the Deputy Regional Director for Arab States of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), arrived in Mogadishu for a series of high-level meetings with Somali government officials.

Walter’s visit began with a meeting with Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the ministry headquarters. The discussions centered on strengthening cooperation and coordination between UNDP and the Federal Government of Somalia. Key topics included leveraging Somalia’s natural resources, particularly in agriculture and fishing, to drive development efforts.

Minister Fiqi expressed gratitude for UNDP’s significant role in Somalia’s development and emphasized the importance of enhancing partnerships between various stakeholders.

Following this, Walter met with Hassan Moalim Mohamud, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, at the UNDP headquarters in Mogadishu. Their talks focused on improving communication and cooperation, implementing joint projects, finalizing the constitution, and expanding justice services.

Walter’s visit underscores UNDP’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s development goals and addressing challenges through collaborative efforts with the federal government.
