Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has conducted another successful operation against al-Shabaab militants in the Yaaqle area, resulting in 19 casualties among the terrorist group’s fighters. The operation, which took place northeast of Bal’ad city, targeted a suspected militant gathering point.
Following the strike, NISA reported observing a significant fire at the location, suggesting the presence of explosives that may have been under preparation by the militants at the time of the operation.
This latest action marks the second major operation in the Yaaqle region within a five-day period. The previous operation, conducted on Sunday, resulted in 27 militant casualties, according to NISA’s reports.
In an official press release, NISA reaffirmed the National Army’s commitment to combating terrorism, stating, “The National Army is determined to target the terrorist enemies everywhere who are engaged in harassing the Somali people.”
The back-to-back operations demonstrate an intensified effort by Somali security forces to disrupt al-Shabaab’s activities in the region. The Yaaqle area, which has seen repeated militant activity, appears to be a significant focus of these counter-terrorism efforts.
