Clan-related violence leaves five people dead in Somalia

Published: February 7, 2015

At least five people have been killed in a Somalia central town in clan-related violence on Saturday, officials and residents have confirmed.
The clashes between armed militia from two clans broke out in the town of Beledweyn, the capital of Somalia’s Hiiran region and close to the border with Ethiopia.
Somali government officials in the region have called for both clans to halt the clash and reach an immediate peace deal.
The clash between the two rival clans had started last year following a land dispute, while the local elders been able to mediate between the groups, a lasting ceasefire has never been achieved.
