Somalia: 4 Gov’t Soldiers killed in Mogadishu blastFour Somali soldiers were killed Tuesday in a landmine blast in the outskirts of the capital, Mogadishu, Horseed Media reports.
The explosion occurred when the soldiers were travelling on a military convoy heading to Afgoye district which is some 30km (18 miles) north-west of Mogadishu.
An Afgoye town official confirmed to the media the death of four soldiers and at least two others were left wounded.
No group has yet claimed the responsibility of the attack, but fingers will be pointed out to the extremist group al-Shabaab. It has carried out similar attacks in the past.
The al-Qaeda-linked extremists remain dangerous, unpredictable and bold, known for audacious and chilling attacks. Their fighters routinely target the Somali government in Mogadishu. The group has also sought to terrorize neighboring Kenya.
Somalia has been racked by constant war for more than 20 years – its last functioning national government was toppled in 1991.
